1.- Mount a dial indicator on the housin as shown in <b>Figure 24</b><br />

to measure ring gear backlash. The indicator plunger should touch the drive side of a ring gear tooth at the right angles to the tooth. Hold the pinion from turning with one hand and rotate the ring gear against the dial indicator with the other. Backlash should be 0.005 - 0.010 in. (0.12 - 0.25 mm). If not, have the differential disassembled and adjusted.<br />

2.- Measure ring gear runout. It should not exceed o.006 in. (0.15 mm). If it dose, have the differential repaired.<br />
